Marching on…

 in News — bunnzy

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the end of March 2008.  Time really does fly when you’re having fun (and being a mum, and being a manager, and being a student, and being a webmaster…).

But, I do live for abandonware! -_-  And I’m loving the progress of this site.  I am really happy, and I guess.. encouraged to see the new sites which are still being built to support this cause.  I remember when it was the 1990s and we were starting abandonware websites to keep the 1980s alive.  And it’s nearly 2010 and people are still starting up websites to keep the 1980s alive, as well as the 1990s.

Keep up the good work everyone. It’s worthy cause, and as curators of these museums we’re doing a damn fine job.

Au revoir!
Michelle xx

Abandonware Torrents!

 in News — bunnzy

So DarKsiDe (yes, from Abandon5000) has started an Abandonware Torrents site. I think this is a just awesome idea. The site is at http://www.awtorrent.net/.

I wrote a bit about it over on my blog at www.weetbix.net, and DarKsiDe was nice enough to stop by and provide more information about what’s happening with the site and where it’ll be heading. So defintely go over and have a read for more information.

It may be hard to get it all sorted, with keeping up with what is seeding, removing old games no longer abandonware etc.  I am pleased to hear that there will be more info shared per game, screenshots etc.  Plus, limited uploaders to keep the quality. :)

I think it’s going to be useful for repopulating the abandonware world.  People will be able to review games, start up sites and link to the Abandonware Torrents site to encourage people to share the old games.

I’m looking forward to getting involved and sharing a lot of abandonware through Abandonware Torrents, I hope everyone else gets behind this awesome concept and shares the love too. :)

Introducing Hexie to you

 in News — hexie

Hey everybody, I welcome you to me on this website. I can now write complete reviews too of games, so you will see some of my writings soon. The first review is already there and thats the review of Lotus - The Ultimate Challenge For PC.

Lets talk about my history. I had my first internet connection established in 1996, when we were still using 115k2 serial cable modems overhere in The Netherlands. After looking around on the web for a while I tried to login into IRC for the first time. As a newbie as I was at that particular time I tried to login through the web browser, which obviously didnt work. At some point in time I managed to get onto EFnet, IRC and looked for abandonware channels. At that time abandonware wasnt invented yet, so I was looking for people sharing the same interest in old games. I ended up in a channel called #1980warez. After bumming around in there for some time I started to use my ftp, xdcc and finally fserver powers. When the channel became less and less interesting I went on in 1997 to #adventurewarez, with ArChiS leading the place and finally to good old #oldgames, where I still remain.

I came into contact with Bunnzy in 2001, although she claimes it was much earlier. I dont remember really. I always thought it was 2001. Anyhow, we know each other for quite a while now and I recently told her I wanted to start my own abandonware site and didnt want to suck at it. So she offered me her help or I could join Bunny Abandonware instead. Easy choice really, I’ll just join up with her ;) We already share the same domain and webspace, so this is a logical step further.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy my reviews as I will probably release a few more soon onto this website. We’ll keep Bunny Abandonware running in 2008 as well!

I salute you!

- Hexie

Happy New Year!

 in News — bunnzy

Well, another year has passed us by here at Bunny Abandonware. Quite a few changes occurred.

Firstly we have moved into v4.0. The new wordpress setup is working awesomely. We are also fully moved to our new host - Huzzah to Hexie. You can send him lots of love emails via this website. Use our contact form to say thank you to him. He’s really our saviour! (Seriously, get that love mail flowing okay!)

Our second biggest change was getting Abandoned Places added to our collection. Now we have to great sites run by the fabulous people here. Well, I’m the only person, I guess that makes me fabulous? No? ;)

It’s been, 9 years now? It’s been a long time anyway. I’ve seen a lot of sites go down the tubes over the years. Even ones which are still alive from the good old days are abandoned themselves, never to be updated (read: HOTU, Flashback etc). We’ll keep trucking :) Long live abandonware and our worthy cause.

Here’s to a most excellent 2008! *cheers*

Abandoned Places joins the family

 in News — bunnzy

Wow, it’s a big day in abandonware world :)  Voh has handed over Abandoned Places to… well… me! Long time supporter, member, updater and general admirer of both Abandoned Places AND voh. :)  Thanks Voh, we’ll make sure it’s looked after real well!

The whole crew here at Bunny Abandonware (consisting of just me) is really happy to welcome this fine addition.

So go over there and look at the finer sites in the abandonware community. There are still a lot of great people out there doing their best to keep the old games alive. :)

Steam delivers Id Software classics

 in News — bunnzy

Wow! Good news for all your Id Software fans. You can now get all those classics delivered straight to your desktop from the cool kids over at Steam.

Look at what they’ve made available:

Quake III Arena, Wolfenstein 3D, Ultimate DOOM, Final DOOM, DOOM II, QUAKE, QUAKE II, QUAKE II Mission Pack: The Reckoning, QUAKE II Mission Pack: Ground Zero, QUAKE III: Team Arena, HeXen, HeXen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Spear of Destiny, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, QUAKE Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity, QUAKE Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon, DOOM 3, HeXen II, DOOM 3 Resurrection of Evil, Master Levels for Doom II and Commander Keen (the whole set of 5)!

I really recommend you get your hands on these, they are 10% off for the next week. Plus we need to support companies who are supporting our older game titles. Let’s encourage this ressurection trend :)

Thanks for the source Brett!

Howdy folks :)

 in News — bunnzy

Another great game added. I have added Lunar Command which is a newer but identical version of Moonbase from the same creators. It’s basically just updated to run on newer PC’s. Yet, it was still 15 years ago, so it’s not _that_ new ;)

I got my own blog at www.weetbix.net working again, I’m trying my hand at this Wordpress templating nonsense. We’ll see how I can do!

Firefox Add-ons

 in News — bunnzy

I’m playing with Firefox and finding add-ons. I’m quite bored really. Well, no, I lie. I am playing Cultures 2, but came back waiting for my torrent to finish so I can watch the latest episode of Scrubs…

Let’s see how this add-on does it :)

Hexie saves the day

 in News — bunnzy

Big thanks goes out to Hexie for helping us with our issues. We now are back in action (once I ask my cousin how to do a bulk update for the download links…)

I’ll be sure to update you when the files are accessible again :)

I am SO happy, thank you so much Hexie. From the bottom of my heart, and from all those who sent in their messages of support. Thank you to the abandonware supporters!
